Brewers or Rays: this World Series guarantees a first-time champion.
Game 1 is scheduled for October 23. Milwaukee has home-field advantage, and a seven-game series would finish on Halloween.

Baseball is about to crown a first-time World Series champion. The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays begin their best-of-seven matchup on Friday, October 23, and neither franchise has won the title before.
That makes one part of the outcome certain even before the first pitch: whichever team wins, a long wait will end. Which team that will be remains entirely unsettled.
MLB’s October 20 guide sets Game 1 for 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Milwaukee has home-field advantage after finishing with the better regular-season record. If the series goes the distance, Game 7 is scheduled for Halloween, October 31.
Milwaukee arrives with a record-setting season
The Brewers finished 103–59, the best record in Major League Baseball and a franchise record for wins. It was their second consecutive season leading the majors in that category, according to MLB’s guide.
Their postseason route included a four-game Division Series win over San Diego and a four-game National League Championship Series sweep of the Dodgers. The latter reversed the disappointment of the previous season and sent Milwaukee back to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
The 1982 appearance came when the Brewers were in the American League. They lost that seven-game series to St. Louis. This return is therefore both their second appearance and their first as National League champions.
Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and NLCS Most Valuable Player Jake Bauers are among the names in the spotlight. Pitchers Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson have also been central to the run. A strong cast explains the interest; it does not make the final series a formality.
Tampa Bay has its own unfinished history
The Rays went 98–64 and entered the postseason as the American League’s top seed. They swept the Yankees in the Division Series and beat Cleveland in six games in the ALCS.
This will be Tampa Bay’s third World Series appearance after 2008 and 2020. Both previous trips ended without the championship. The club now gets another chance, with Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz among its key hitters.
Drew Rasmussen and ALCS MVP Freddy Peralta feature in the pitching story. The final matchup will still depend on game-by-game decisions and performance; the series guide does not justify inventing starting assignments that have not been announced.
How the schedule works
Games 1 and 2 are scheduled for Milwaukee on October 23 and 24. The series then moves to Tampa Bay for Games 3 and 4 on October 26 and 27, with Game 5 there on October 28 if needed.
If neither team has won four games, Games 6 and 7 return to Milwaukee on October 30 and 31. The final three games are conditional. A four-game sweep would make the later dates unnecessary, while a close series could carry the championship decision all the way to Halloween.
MLB lists FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One among the US viewing options. Availability outside the United States can differ, so a US broadcast listing should not be treated as a worldwide streaming entitlement.
The regular-season meeting is context, not destiny
Milwaukee won two of the clubs’ three meetings from March 30 to April 1. That provides a small piece of background, but those early-season games do not decide a late-October best-of-seven series.
The appeal is bigger than a historical curiosity. Both clubs enter with strong regular-season records and convincing postseason results. One has the majors’ best record and a return 44 years in the making; the other has another opportunity to turn an American League pennant into its first championship.
No score has been settled yet. For now, the remarkable fact is enough: every possible ending to this World Series gives one franchise a trophy it has never held.
